Frequently asked questions

The questions owners, property managers and landlords ask us most often – answered briefly and directly.

How do I know whether my pool really has a leak or is just evaporating?

Do the bucket test: stand a bucket filled with pool water on a step inside the pool, mark the water level in the bucket and on the pool, and compare after 24 hours with the pump switched off. If the pool has dropped noticeably more than the bucket, it is losing water through a leak, not evaporation. As a rough rule of thumb, more than about 1 cm a day with nobody using the pool is suspicious.

Do I need to be in Mallorca when you come?

No. We arrange the visit with your property manager, pool company, gardener or key holder. You receive the report with photos and the marked leak point by email in English, and can then commission the repair from wherever you are.

Will anything get damaged during the leak detection?

No. All our methods – pressure testing, acoustic detection, tracer gas and, as a supporting tool, thermal imaging – are non-destructive. We mark the spot; nothing is opened until the repair, and then only there.

What does leak detection cost?

Free, no-obligation quote in advance: tell us briefly about the property and the problem, and we give you the price before we start. Prices for private customers include VAT; there is a business rate without VAT for companies. For the rest of the island outside the south-west we add a travel charge.

How long does a visit take?

It depends on the property. A pool or a house usually takes a few hours; a large villa with pool, underground pipes and irrigation can take a full day. We give you a realistic estimate when we arrange the visit.

Are you guaranteed to find the leak first time?

In most cases yes, but to be honest: no reputable company can guarantee that. Very small leaks, several leaks at once, unknown pipe routes or awkward conditions can mean a second visit is needed. We will tell you openly on site how confident we are in the result.

Can you repair the leak as well?

Yes. We are a licensed installer and can carry out the repair after detection. Equally, you are welcome to use your own tradesperson – our report tells them exactly where and what needs doing.

Is the tracer gas dangerous for people, pets or the pool?

No. The test gas is a mix of 5 % hydrogen and 95 % nitrogen. In this mixture it is non-flammable, non-toxic and leaves no residue. It is used in industry and by water utilities for exactly this purpose.

My water meter keeps running even though every tap is closed. What does that mean?

Somewhere between the meter and the points of use, water is escaping – in the underground supply pipe, in a pipe inside a wall or floor, or at an appliance (toilet cistern, water heater, pool auto-fill). First close the main stopcock inside the house: if the meter keeps running, the leak is in the underground pipe between the meter and the house. We can then go straight to that section.

Which areas do you cover?

Mainly Calvià and the south-west of Mallorca: Santa Ponça, Peguera, Port d'Andratx, Camp de Mar, Palmanova, Magaluf, Portals, Son Vida, Palma and the surrounding area. For the rest of the island we add a travel charge, which we confirm in advance.
